About Us
A Worsening Crisis And Epidemic
It's a worsening crisis in Australian households, an un-talked
about epidemic of starving Australian children.
A recent report has found that one in five Australian kids go to school without eating breakfast at least once a week, while one in ten go a whole day at least once a week without eating anything at all.
NoKidHungryAu was conceived and put into action to combat and stamp out hunger in aussie kids - via school breakfast clubs and local food hubs.
Our Story
TURNING EXCESS GOODS INTO FOOD FOR THOSE IN NEED

When Dave Davis, the co founder of NoKidHungryAustralia recently got his hands on an unused building adjacent to the local IGA CENTRAL supermarket, he knew exactly what the 300 sqm space could be used for.

So. the new Saving Place Food Hub was created, helping to feed
around 340 local and extended families a week (on average)
or up to 1800 people and more.
A major part of the outlet also offers budget food shopping to the general public at massively discounted prices, as a fund raising exercise.

The give away food is "recovered or rescued” from major supermarkets - “gleaned” from shelves at the end of the day, including fresh fruit and vegies, and are packed into the chiller van and bought back to the base to
be given away to those in need.
All produce is good quality and often better than shelf stock the major chains offer to the public for purchase.

In the past too much of it was destined to be wasted, while so many local families went without bread, meat, fruit and vegies. Our team RESCUES it for our feeding programs.

With his background of nearly 45 years in the food industry at the top level working for major manufacturers and supermarket chains in Australia and overseas Mr Davis was all too familiar with the massive waste.

We average up to eight tonne a day in food rescue,
food that used to go to the tip.” he said.

The food hub is for our co-op members who pay a $12.00 annual membership. The membership entitles them to a banana box of food, for a small weekly fee and massively discounted prices on other essential products.

Memberships are also available to people who need to use the food service for a short amount of time, to get over a period of financial hardship.

“People can use this as a way to get over a financial hardship, if they find themselves unable to purchase food for a short period of time, Mr Davis said.

But the RETAIL FOOD HUB is for everyone wanting to purchase
budget priced food for their families.
It is open to the general public with profits being returned to
the FREE food hub section.

“The idea of the FOOD HUB is to raise funds so we do not have to rely solely on food rescue", says Mr Davis.

Free food remains free (eg; if it comes in free, it goes out free)

“Every $8 profit made by Saving Place Food Hub helps supply $15 worth of food for the needy”, says Mr Davis.

The Food Hub has more than 1500 cut price food & grocery items on sale, and is much like a FOOD op-shop. It's an opportunity to save money while helping those in need".
